Frank Phillips College welcomes Mr. Kerry Symons as the 2011 Commencement Speaker as part of the Commencement ceremony that will take place Friday evening, starting at 7:00 p.m., at the BCAC.
Mr. Symons, a Perryton native and notable Texas Panhandle businessman, earned his Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Business and Economics from West Texas State University (now West Texas A & M University).
In 1995, while running an office supply store in Louisiana, Mr. Symons and his wife, Cynthia, had the chance to buy Perryton Office Supply and Radio Shack. Both Mr. and Mrs. Symons had relatives in Perryton and considered the business opportunity a sound one. They purchased the store and retained its three employees.
Perryton Office Supply and Radio Shack now has 16 full-time employees, since 2004 has been the best-performing Radio Shack in the United States, and in 2007 won the company’s Pinnacle Award as its national store of the year.
Mr. Symons currently owns 12 Radio Shack and/or Verizon retail locations across the Panhandle and Western Oklahoma.
His entrepreneurial spirit and ‘can-do’ attitude continue to propel Perryton and the Texas Panhandle into the public and often times national limelight.
Mr. Symons has served on the Perryton City Council and on the board of the Perryton Community Development Corporation and was an important voice in bringing the FPC Allen Campus to Perryton. He serves on the FPC Development Corporation Board as well as the FPC Allen Campus Advisory Council. Mr. Symons won the State of Texas Small Business Award in 2010 for “Model and Business Skills Use.”
