Robert Vinyard is seeking reelection to the Borger City Council, Place 2.
Vinyard said he was born and raised here in Borger. He spent three years in Norway with Phillips Petroleum Company from 1979 to 1982, but the rest of his time has been spent in Borger.
“Borger is not too big or too small, it’s in the middle of the country, so it’s a good place to travel from, and I like having all four seasons,” he said.
He said his hobby is flying, and is proud that Hutchinson County has a great airport. He served for 10 years on the airport board.
Vinyard also served as a volunteer with the EOC for 10 years, with six to seven years in a command capacity. He has served the last three years as a city councilman, and he and his wife Martha are the owners of R & M Vinyard, Inc.
He said he is qualified to continue his service as a city councilman because he keeps the interests of citizens at heart and knows what the office entails.
“I have spent the past three years on the council, I have an understanding of what the job takes, and I take the job seriously,” Vinyard said. ‘I spend a lot of time and energy studying the material that we vote on. I have also sought the thoughts of citizens on many subjects to have a better feel for how I should vote.”
He said he has been a local businessman for 22 years, has experience serving on the city council, and has strong community involvement, all qualities that will be beneficial if reelected.
“Most of all, I care about our city and its citizens,” Vinyard said.
The general election for the Borger City Council will be held on May 14, 2011.
