
Last night the Borger ISD School Board approved the hiring of Chet Byerly as the new head boys basketball coach.
After over a month- long search, that drew the interest of over 45 applicants, Byerly was picked to lead the Bulldog hoop program due to his experience as a head coach and a player.
Byerly brings to Borger 17 years of coaching experience that includes six years as an assistant before spending the last 11 years as a head coach at Breckenridge, Azle, Snyder, Hillsboro and most recent at El Campo, near the Houston area.
Byerly holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology with a minor in mathematics from Angelo State University where he was a four-year letterman on the men’s basketball team. Byerly earned the Freshman of the Year Award in the Lone Star Conference in 1989-90 and was named to the Academic All-Conference team in 1992-93.
Byerly is a 1989 graduate of Brownwood High School where he earned the District 7-4A Co-MVP award and was named to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Academic All-State team in 1988-89.
Byerly is married to his wife Amber and has two sons Boston, age 12, and Hagen, age 8.
