There are times in sports when one miscue just seems to lead to the opening of the floodgate for several more to follow before a team can finally regroup.
For the Borger Lady Bulldogs, four of the five innings of their District 1-3A opener had the team holding their own with district rivals, the Pampa Lady Harvesters. However in the top of the third inning, a couple of walks and fielding errors opened the door for the Lady Harvesters to score nine runs before the Lady Bulldogs could regroup, giving Pampa the momentum they needed to leave Agnes Howe Park with the 16-2 win.
Pampa got on the scoreboard early, by using a two RBI single and a rbi double to take a 0-3 lead after the first inning.
The Lady Bulldogs took a little time to get their bats going in the contest by only accumulating two singles until the fourth inning.
The Lady Bulldogs got off the field in the first and second innings by being able to turn two double plays. But it would be the third inning that proved to do the Lady Bulldogs in on Saturday with the Lady Harvesters sending seven batters to the plate before Borger could get the first out of the inning to make it a 0-7 score. The Lady Bulldogs finally got on an out on a fielder’s choice to home.
However, the Lady Harvesters would score five more runs on two hits and two errors before Borger could get off the field.
With the score 0-12, the Lady Bulldogs finally were able to get on the scoreboard in the fourth inning on a two RBI single by Kylie Boyd to bring in Traysha Walker and Joanne Jones.
But a rally wasn’t in the cards for the Lady Bulldogs on Saturday as Pampa scored four more runs in the top of the fifth inning to force the 10-run rule for the win.
The loss drops the Lady Bulldogs to 15-13 overall and 0-1 in district play. Borger will next take on the Dalhart Lady Wolves at home on Tuesday evening at 5:00 p.m. with both teams looking for their first district win.
Traysha Walker 2/2; Kylie Boyd ½ with 2 RBI’S.
Taylor Hickman got the loss on the mound pitching all five innings.
