Fritch City Manager Drew Brassfield announced Friday he would challenge incumbent state Rep. Four Price (R-Amarillo) in the 2017 Republican primary for House District 87. House District 87 covers Carson, Hutchinson, Moore, Potter and Sherman counties.

Brassfield was hired in January to replace Steve McKay who was fired on September 20, 2016. Brassfield is from Panhandle and has worked in both the public and private sectors. He graduated from West Texas A&M University with a degree in Criminal Justice Administration and a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice Administration.

Brassfield said he is running to give voters a more conservative alternative to Price. Price hasn't faced a primary opponent since he was first elected in 2010 and has a campaign war chest of $529,000 according to the Amarillo Globe-News.
