Mule deer hunting season opens Saturday, November 21 in the Texas Panhandle. According to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, biologists say above average habitat conditions have bolstered body weights and antler growth this year. The state agency is asking hunters and landowners to submit harvested mule deer for sampling. The testing is part of state wide efforts to monitor Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD).

The testing is not required on mule deer harvested in the Panhandle. A map of CWD zones is available at the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department website at www.tpwd.state.tx.us/cwd.
