A free workshop being held this Friday will give non-profit organizations much needed information on the handling of legal issues.
Legal Check Up for Nonprofits will be presented in this workshop on Friday, Sept. 23, 2011. The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the Frank Phillips College campus in the A&I Conference Center.
Beverly Benton, CEO of the Borger Chamber of Commerce, said the workshop is open to nonprofit board members and executive directors, and will cover legal issues relating to corporate governance and compliance.
“Texas Community Building with Attorney Resources (“Texas C-Bar”) is the only project of its kind in Texas, providing free business law services across the state to community-based nonprofits,” she said.
Topics to be covered include an overview of state and federal laws covering nonprofits, insurance protection, legal implications of fundraising, lobbying, and other important issues to keep the organization and its board of directors from being sued or losing tax-exempt status.
The speaker for the workshop will be D’Ann Johnson, Attorney at Law, Texas C-Bar, Legal Services Director. The workshop is being sponsored by the Hutchinson County United Way and Borger Chamber of Commerce.
Reservations are requested and may be made calling the Hutchinson County United Way at 274-5662 or the Borger Chamber of Commerce at 274-2211.
