The West Texas Lady Comanches got a little taste of revenge last night as they took care of business with a win over the Lady Wildcats from River Road. The two met earlier this year with River Road getting the win 52-49. Last night, the tables were turned with the Lady Tribe coming out on top 36-29.
Abby Summers got the Lady Comanches on the board first with a soft jumper in the paint. Cheyenne Tull hit a bucket with a strong shot inside and was fouled. She made the free throw to give WT a 7-4 edge. WT held a 7-6 edge after the first. The Lady Comanches had 3 turnovers in the opening quarter compared to 8 for River Road.
Tull added two buckets in the second as did Erin Summers. Kaitlyn Wilson had a basket. The Lady Comanchesâ€™ defense held the Lady Cats to just 3 second quarter points to take a 17-9 lead into the locker room at the half.
Tull continued to play strong inside the paint for WT in the third quarter and had three buckets inside. Abby Summers swiped the ball and made a great pass inside to an awaiting Tull. This coming just after Summers hit a three from way outside. Natalie Franklin popped a trey just as time expired in the third to give the Lady Tribe a 31-21 lead.
River Road made eight unanswered points in the third to close to within six, 33-29 with 2:31 left in the game. After that little run, they got nothing else and WT sent Abby Summers to the foul line twice. She made 3-4 to preserve the win for the Lady Comanches 36-29.
Tull led WT in scoring with 15 points, 7 rebounds, and a steal. Abby Summers had 8 points and a key steal in the final minutes. Erin Summers scored 4 points. Sarah Kelly scored 4 points and had 5 boards. Franklin had 3 points and 2 rebounds. Wilson had 2 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals. Alyssa Snider grabbed 6 rebounds and had a nice defensive game for the Tribe.
