The West Texas High Comanches must have been a little ticked off after their loss to Boys Ranch earlier this week, because they put it to the Irish yesterday, 13-0 in five innings. Senior Logan Hoff led the attack with two home runs in the first inning and Big Ty Lay knocked one over in the third. The Tribe batted around in the bottom of the first, sending twelve hitters to the plate. Hoff is the lead off batter and had a full count when he sent his first one over the fence. In fact, the entire Tribe had a great day at the plate.
Hoff pitched the five inning “mercy rule” game. He allowed just one hit in the shut out. He struck out five and walked three.
After getting the Irish three up and three down in the top of the first, the Tribe put up eight runs in the bottom of the inning. They left just one man on base, and Hoff had the two home runs. Shamrock also went three up and three down in the top of the second. WT put up one more run in the bottom of the second, and had another man on base, but he was put out when he got caught between second and third. Their lead was now 9-0.
The Irish got a man on in the top of the third with a base on balls. Three routine outs ended the inning with him stranded. The Comanches added three more to their total in the bottom of the inning. Two courtesy of Lay’s home run. The lead was 12-0 after three.
Hoff fanned the first two batters and put a man on with their only hit of the game. One more Irishman got on with a walk, but the Tribe ended the inning with a fielder’s choice play at second. WT put up one more run in the bottom of the fourth to take a 13-0 lead in to the fifth.
The Comanches needed just three outs to end the game. The first batter up got on base with a walk, but on the next play, Lay caught a pop up on first base, and tagged the baserunner out for an unassisted double play. Hoff struck out the last hitter to end the game.
Logan Hoff was 3-3 with the two home runs and he had three RBI’s. Jeremy O’Gorman went 2-3 with a stand up triple. Kyle Stroud hit a stand up triple. Lay hit a home run with two RBI’s. Carlos Juarez was 3-3. Tyler Hoff had a double, a sacrifice, and 3 RBI”s. Alex Ramirez scored two runs after getting on base with two Iris errors. Terrence Bonds had a sacrifice RBI and had a base hit that turned into a trip around the bags when the ball went between the center fielder’s legs to the fence.
The Tribe ends their regular season as the District Runner Up. They have a 14-7 overall record and are 7-3 in District play. They already know they will face Nazareth in Bi-District on Wednesday May 4, and Saturday May 7 in a best of three series.
