West Texas A&M University President J. Patrick O'Brien has announced he'll retire at the end of the academic year. O'Brien became the university's 10th president on Feb. 21, 2006. During his tenure the university experienced higher enrollment and expanded business and nursing programs. He also presided over the controversial firing in 2013 of head football coach Don Carthel.
