Wanda Frances Alford, 91, of Borger, passed away, Friday, July 8, 2011.
Wanda Frances (Cooper) Alford was born Sunday, February 29, 1920 in Enid, OK to Paul and Ada (Crouch) Cooper. She married Clifford Lahoma Alford on September 9, 1941 in Bartlesville, OK. Wanda was an avid bowler on the Chatterettes League until January 2011. She also taught Red Cross swimming lessons to thousands of Hutchinson County children. She was a member of the Phillips Ladies Golf League and was a Girl Scout leader in Phillips, TX for many years. Wanda always manned the cotton candy machine at the football games and at the fair.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clifford on May 9, 1990; her daughter, Janice Arlene Seay on March 5, 2005; her sister, Jean Curtis; and her brother, Glenn Cooper.
Survivors include her son, Dallas Alford and wife Sandy of Amarillo, TX; two daughters, Sue Trumbly and husband Joe Bob of Fritch, TX and Stacy Mitchell and husband Wayne of Borger, TX; two sisters, Gertrude Hughey of Bartlesville, OK and Mary Florance Suggs of San Antonio, TX; one son-in-law, Willie Seay of Linden, TX; ten grandchildren, Steve Geerdes and wife Stacey of Plano, TX, Donald Geerdes of Borger, TX, Donna Mowles and husband Ron of Surprise, AZ; Cherl Prince and husband Randy of Midland, TX, Kim Swink and husband David of Perryton, TX, Allen Alford of Dallas, TX, Tiffany Reid and husband Britt of Whitedeer, TX, Cliff Mitchell and wife Deidra of Midland, TX, Cooper Mitchell and wife Kathy of Haltom City, TX and Dillon Mitchell and wife Robyn of Amarillo, TX; twelve great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00AM, Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Westlawn Memorial Cemetery in Borger, TX.
Mrs. Alford will lie in state at Brown Chapel of the Fountains in Borger, TX on Monday, July 11, 2011 from 8:00AM to 8:00PM and Tuesday, July 12, 2011 from 8:00AM to 8:00PM.
