The West Texas Lady Comanches started district play with a loss to the Booker Lady Kiowas in Booker.
Yesterday afternoon in Stinnett, the Lady Comanches trailed the entire game. They were losing 8-3 after four innings, but they slowly crept back into the game.
Trailing 8-7 in the bottom of the seventh, Abby Summers hit a sacrifice to center field to knock in the tying run of Lanie Hazel who was on base with a walk.
Then, Sarah Kelly belted a base hit to center field to score Chay Sargent and give WT the win 9-8.
Booker scored a run in the first inning and three more in the third to take a 4-0 lead. West Texas scored three in the third, two runs on a double by Taylor Kirksey to get back into the game 4-3.
The Lady Kiowas added four more runs in the top of the fourth to take an 8-3 lead. Then the Lady Comanches put together three straight innings of great softball. Pitcher Danielle Heater struck out seven batters in the last three innings and catcher Abbey Rios threw out a base runner trying to steal second in the top of the seventh.
Heater pitched the entire game and struck out 11 batters. WT added three runs in the bottom of the fifth to creep closer to Booker and trailed 8-6 after five. They added one more run in the sixth to put themselves in a position for the come back win.
Sarah Kelly had a great day at the plate, going 4-4. She had a double and the all important game winning hit. Taylor Kirksey was 3-4 with 2 RBIs. Chay Sargent was 2-2. Erin Frost was 2-3 with a double and an RBI. Abby Summers went 2-3 with an RBI in the seventh. Heater belted a triple with an RBI.
The Lady Comanches are now 3-3 in district play. Their next game is in Claude this Saturday at 10 am.
