VVA to award four scholarships to high school seniors

Saraya De La Rosa, a Student at Sanford-Fritch High School, will be delivering the scholarship application to Sanford-Fritch High School for the 2013 Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 404 Scholarship Essay Contest.

Hutchinson County High School Seniors, the Vietnam Veterans of America, North Plains Chapter 404, Borger, Texas, wish to award a Hutchinson County Vietnam Veterans Memorial Scholarship to four (4) graduating seniors from any Hutchinson County High School, or home schooled graduating students from each district.
Applications will be provided to high school counselors at West Texas High School, Sanford-Fritch High School, Borger High School and Home Schooled Seniors, or are available on line at www.vvachapter404.com/scholarship.htm
The completed application must be postmarked no later than April 19, 2013.

Scholarship Criteria
Who qualifies for this scholarship?
Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 404, Borger, Texas, offers this scholarship for seniors who are attending West Texas High School, Fritch High School, Borger High School and Home Schooled Seniors in Hutchinson County, Texas, and who will be attending after graduation a fully accredited public, private or parochial college or university, business, or technical college. Each high school will receive one scholarship per year.
What is the Hutchinson County Memorial Scholarship?
This scholarship was started to pay honor to the young men from Hutchinson County who paid the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom of Democracy while serving in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War.
As of March 25, 2002, the list of these fallen soldiers from Hutchinson County can be found on our website.
This year’s (2013) scholarship will be given in memory of Jerald Leon Dozier 34 years old, died October 13, 1965
How may the Scholarship money be used?
This scholarship money may be applied toward tuition, books and other fees.

Completed entries must be postmarked on or before April 19, 2013.

What about the essay?
The topic:
Effects of the media on the Vietnam War.
•Minimum of 1,000 words.
•Judged on content, appearance, grammar, originality, and punctuation.
•Type double-spaces essays only.
•The title page and the bibliography are not included in the 1000 words.
•Each essay must reflect the applicant’s own research, writing and original thinking. * The Internet or World Wide Web
should not be the only source for your essay. Be aware that you may encounter republished or
third generation information on the Internet that is inaccurate or improperly attributed. When citing
Internet sources, you must include the following information: author(s), title of work, Internet address and date information was accessed. Internet sources should be listed separately from nonelectronic sources, such as books, magazines and newspapers. Your essay must not rely solely on
Internet research. * Each essay must include a title page, not considered text, with the following information: essay title, authors name and date. The title of the essay, but NOT the authors name,
MUST appear on the top of the first page of the essay text. * A bibliography with references must
be included and clearly identified. * Suggestions:
Describe the effects that the media had on the Vietnam War.
Set the discussion as a newspaper article.
Base your discussion on media articles, video, and television programs about the Vietnam War.
