Volunteers are needed for the upcoming United Way Day of Caring.
This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, April 28. Activities will begin at 7:30 a.m. at Huber Park with coffee and breakfast. Teams will depart at 8 a.m. to begin work on their designated projects.
Teri Hogue, who works with the Hutchinson County United Way, said the Day of Caring is a special day when companies and individuals come together to complete projects that benefit people within the community.
“Volunteers work together to assist our neighbors with tasks that they are unable to perform themselves, such as yard work, painting, carpentry, minor repairs, winterizing homes, yard clean up, housekeeping, and other odd jobs that the elderly or disabled are unable to do,” she said.
Hogue said the organization is not able to accept any additional projects due to the number of requests that have already been submitted and the need for more volunteers.
She said the Day of Caring is a time when volunteers can give back to their community.
“The Day of Caring represents true volunteerism through which our community can see, firsthand, the entire scope of the Hutchinson County United Way mission....to unite the voluntary strength of our community to care for one another,” she said.
Hogue said this event is an opportunity to give the gift of time, and even though the event is only one day, the spirit of generosity and caring endures throughout the year. She also said the organization is looking for team leaders that would like to organize a time.
“This would require the team leader to accept one of the job requests for the Day of Caring, gather workers and the tools needed for the job and oversee the job to completion,” she said. “Needed supplies will be provided as usual.”
Hogue said donations are also needed, and the organization is looking for sponsors to donate supplies or funds to help with the event. She said the Day of Caring is a time for citizens to show their community spirit.
“The results of the Day of Caring strengthen us individually and make us proud to live in a great community that truly cares for each other,” she said.
She said the organization is grateful for any ways that citizens and sponsors can get involved.
“Thank you for your partnership and dedication to Hutchinson County United Way and the community,” Hogue said. “Let’s all give back to the community that’s been so good to us.”
