For those needing a place to host meetings or other special events, the Huber Community Building is a perfect place to hold such gatherings.
The facility is available by request only to “Not for Profit” local organizations, groups, and individuals.
According to Johnson Park Youth Center Supervisor Annadon Keys, who is also over city facility rentals, reservations for the facility must be made in person. Applicants must be 21 years of age, the primary sponsor of the event, and present during the entire duration of the event.
Whoever signs the application is responsible for maintaining proper conduct of all those who will be attending the function.
The building is available for use to residents outside the Borger area. The rental fee for the Huber Community Building is $40 per day for Borger residents and $80 for non-residents.
A security deposit of $40 is required, and the security deposit is refunded within a week to two weeks after the scheduled reservation and/or when all conditions of the contract are met.
These conditions include no damage to the facility or property, cleaning, decorating requirements, rental equipment removal, and rental time observed.
A walk through of the facility will be done prior to and after the event with a city staff employee before deposits will be submitted to City Hall for refunds. All refunds are subject to the final discretion of the City Manager and his or her authorized designee.
According to Keys, half of the rental fee and all of the security deposit are due at the time of reservation. The balance of the rental fee is due a week before the rental date.
If a person chooses to cancel his or her rental agreement at least 30 days in advance, they will receive the security deposit and rental fees that have been paid. If a notice of cancellation is received less than 30 days prior to the event, the security deposit will be returned, but any rental fees paid will be forfeited.
Any renters that pay by check and have their check returned for insufficient funds will automatically have their reservation cancelled. The check writer will be held liable for insufficient fund charges in accordance with the current city policy.
Parties that end early will not receive a refund for hours that are not used.
The Huber Community Building is available for use between the hours of 10 a.m. and 12 a.m. seven days a week. According to Keys, for use outside of these hours, special arrangements will need to be made at the time of reservation.
The renter is responsible for leaving the facility, grounds, and furnishings in its original condition. If any cleaning is needed by city staff after the reservation, staff time will be deducted from the security deposit at the rate of $25 per hour.
If repairs or clean up by city staff are required, the renter will be financially responsible for the cost of the repairs and clean up not covered by the deposit. The City of Borger is not responsible for anyone that is injured on the premises, personal property that is left on the site, or rental equipment.
No smoking is permitted at the Huber Community Building. In May of 2007, the city council approved a resolution prohibiting smoking in all city facilities and property.
According to Keys, alcoholic beverages are absolutely prohibited inside or outside of the facility, including the parking area. The renter and his or her party will be asked to leave the premises immediately.
The renter and his or her party in violation of this rule may be subject to citation by the Borger Police Department, and the security deposit of the renter will be forfeited.
No City of Borger property can be removed from the building at any time. Overnight stays are not permitted, but special requests may be considered.
All utilities are to be shut off when people leave, and the renter needs to be sure the building is clean. The key is to be returned to the Borger Police Department, 611 North Weatherly, and after hours emergency numbers are 231-8979 or 273-0930.
Those wishing to find out more about renting the Huber Community Building can stop by the Johnson Park Youth Center, 1201 Bulldog Boulevard, call Keys at 576-0969 or 231-8979, or email her at
