PSPCISD to approve 2008-2009 tax rate
Monday, August 25 2008

By BROOKE HUFF
REPORTER
Now that the Plemons-Stinnett-Phillips Consolidated independent School District board of trustees have discussed the 2008-2009 budget and proposed tax rate, they are ready to approve them.

Tonight at 7, the board will meet in the PSPCISD board conference room to first hold a public hearing to discuss the 2008-2009 proposed tax rate. Immediately following the public hearing, the board will hold a small reception for the district’s new teachers and professional staff. They will then proceed with their meeting.
First on the agenda is the consideration and/or approval of a resolution of the board explaining their intent to exceed or fall short of the proposed expenditure targets established by the Commissioner of Education. The board will then consider and/or approve the 2008-2009 proposed budget and the 2008-2009 tax rate, including the setting of the Maintenance and Operation tax rate and Interest and Sinking Fund tax rate. To go along with that, after they have approved the proposed tax rate, the board will approve an ordinance setting the 2008-2009 total tax rate.
Other matters to be discussed include approving the list of PDAS appraisers and the appraisal calendar for the 2008-009 school year, and the approval of ConocoPhillips’ application for tax credit on qualified property. They will also discuss and/or approve a bid for property that has been struck off the tax roll and did not sell at a tax sale.
Before adjourning for an executive session, the board will discuss and the estimated cost and preliminary drawings of a bus barn, as well as review the Board Operating Procedures XIV: media inquiries to the Board, XV: Anonymous Phone Calls, and XVI: Response to Signed Letters. Also, there will be a review of Board Policy FDA (Local) inter district transfers.
During announcements, the board will hear a report from PSPCISD Superintendent Bill Wiggins regarding enrollment figures, and look over the year’s activities calendar. They will also receive a TASB convention update and PSPCISD financial report.

The food I look forward to preparing in the summer is my infamous Watermelon Basket.  I carve a basket out of a watermelon and place a large fruit salad full of strawberries, blueberries, and melons.  Not only does it taste delicious, but the presentation is a great hit at any family party! - Danny W

I love to go to the theater on main street. Transformers and Year
