One of Disney’s most beloved characters and his friends are making their way to the Amarillo stage this September.

Disney Live will present “Winnie the Pooh” at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, in the auditorium of the Amarillo Civic Center. The show is not an ice show but is more of a theatrical production.
The show features, of course, the honey-loving Winnie the Pooh, along with his friends Tigger, Piglet, Eeyore, Rabbit, Kanga, Roo and Owl, who set out on a journey of fun and surprise to discover what truly makes a perfect day.
The story is narrated by Tracie, who guides the audience through the production with the help of her Hunny Helpers. The helpers provide humor and hijinx as they aid in changing scenes, interact with audience members, and follow Tracie’s direction as the story moves forward.
The show is produced by Feld Entertainment, and according to its CEO, is one that audiences will never forget.
“Disney Live! Winnie the Pooh on Stage offers audiences young and old an unforgettable live entertainment experience and a chance to see Winnie the Pooh like never before,” Kenneth Feld, CEO of Feld Entertainment, said. “When the audience walks in and sees the set before them, they will feel like they are walking right into the Hundred Acre Wood. For many children, this will be their first theatrical experience, which will set the bar for what they expect to see for the rest of their lives.”
All of Pooh’s friends work together to plan a surprise birthday party for him. To keep him distracted, Piglet goes with Pooh in his continuing search for a “smackerel” of honey and visits each character to find out what they think makes a perfect day. Along the way, they get engrossed in the adventures that unfold and take the audience right along with them.
Throughout the show, Tigger bounces, Pooh and Piglet get carried away by balloons on a cloudy day and Eeyore shows his usual “enthusiasm” for the events taking place around him. Rabbit, in a state of panic, assigns tasks and manages party preparations.
With the use of state-of-the-art digital projection, the stage is transformed into a magical world that will be familiar to the audience. Feld Entertainment worked with Disney animators to create stage backgrounds that are directly inspired by Disney films and classic Winnie the Pooh tales.
The different landscapes of the Hundred Acre Wood are brought to life with blowing leaves, fluttering butterflies, and changing seasons. Each scene of the production is filled with beauty, life-sized props, sound and light effects, and an intimate atmosphere.
The production also draws from the vast library of Pooh music and has new arrangements of songs such as “Winnie the Pooh,” “Rumbly in My Tumbly,” “The Whoop-De-Dooper Bounce” and other favorites into the show.
Those interested in purchasing tickets to “Winnie the Pooh” can call 378-3096, log on to www.panhandletickets.com, or stop by Panhandle Tickets outlets.
