Scott Gordon By Brooke Huff Reporter Local physician assistant Scott S. Gordon, MPAS, PA-C has been nationally honored for going “above and beyond” in service to his community and profession.
The Distinguished Fellow Program, in cooperation with the American Academy of Physician Assistants, AAPA, has named Gordon as a Distinguished Fellow. This recognition was earned due to Gordon’s outstanding contributions to patient care and the medical profession during his years as a physician assistant, PA. He has also demonstrated significant dedication and involvement in the community of Fritch. Gordon is currently working as the primary care physician at the Fritch Medical Clinic, where he has been for 10 years, and has been a practicing PA for 16 years. He served in the National Guard for 28 years before retiring in 2006 to pursue his profession full-time. While working as a medic for the National Guard, Gordon received his PA degree from the Army’s Physician Assistant program, graduating with distinction. He later went on to receive his master’s degree from the University of Nebraska with an emphasis on Family Practice. The Distinguished Fellow program honors physician assistants across the country that have distinguished themselves among their colleagues, as well as in their communities, by their service to the PA profession, their commitment to advancing health care for all people, and their exemplary personal and professional development. According to AAPA, PA’s must demonstrate outstanding dedication to their profession in at least three of the following areas of achievement: - Distinction in medical practice, education, research, or healthcare management - Leadership in medicine and healthcare - Professional involvement - Commitment to lifelong learning - Community service Distinguished Fellow PA’s receive many privileges, including the use of the professional designation of Distinguished Fellow of AAPA, recognition at the AAPA Annual Conference and in AAPA News, and acceptance of a certificate and gold pin. The services that Gordon offers at the Fritch Medical Clinic range from laceration repairs and cryotherapy for warts to broken bones and removal of foreign body parts. Not only does he serve the Fritch community by offering easier access to medical services, he is also very involved in the lives of his clients, and the city itself. His community involvement includes providing sideline medical coverage for Fritch High School’s football teams and working as the sports consultant for FPC. He has also worked for the Borger Police SWAT Team and served as Fritch’s Health Officer. The best part of his job, however, is being able to establish personal relationships with his clients. He said that because he is the only medical adviser in Fritch, it gives him a chance to get to know people on a more personal level.
