Veterans’ memorial unveiled in Fritch City Park

June 16, 2014

Patriot Guard Rider members Jerry Moore (left) and Al Alejandro remove the cover from the new Fritch Veterans Memorial marker during a Flag Day celebration in the Fritch City Park on Saturday. The monument is the dream of Mary Lue McFarling, the wife of the late Air Force Col. J.L. McFarling.

FRITCH - For Mary McFarling, the official unveiling of the veterans’ monument at the Fritch City Park on Saturday afternoon was a dream come true. The men and women who served the country, including her late husband, Col. J.L. McFarling, finally had something that honor them.
“This was something Fritch needed,” said McFarling, who spent the past several months working with her daughter, Kaye, and several local residents to raise the funds to erect a concrete monument near the flag pole in the city park. “Considering there were so many other things going on, we had a great attendance for the unveiling. I’m so thrilled.”
