United Way seeking projects for Day of Caring

June 11, 2011

The Hutchinson County United Way is making plans for its upcoming Day of Caring, and is currently seeking ways in which it can help out the community.
This year’s event is set for Sept. 17, 2011. According to Teri Hogue of the HCUW, the event truly has a “neighbor helping neighbor” focus.
“The Day of Caring is a day when volunteers choose to give their time and services to work on a one-time service project in an effort to impact our community’s needs with tasks that they are unable to perform themselves,” she said.
Hogue said that projects are dependent on the manpower available. If a citizen or someone they know is elderly or disabled, they can request help with a home improvement project from the following list:
Home Repairs
Wheelchair Ramp
Gutters Cleaned
Winterizing Home For Elderly or Disabled
Painting
Yard Clean Up
House Keeping
Carpentry & Odd Jobs
With jobs being limited, the following types of work will not be approved:
Work requiring permits
Bathroom remodeling
Outside Paint Jobs
Roofing
Gas lines
Plumbing
Work on rental property

Those wanting to submit a project can call 806-273-5662. The deadline to submit projects is July 31.
