Tri-City Concert Association seeking members in 2011-12 season

March 31, 2011

As the Tri-City Concert Association prepares for its 2011-12 season, it is currently seeking members to enjoy the variety of entertainment it has to offer.
Borger is hosting three concerts during this upcoming season. The first one will be the Shangril-La Chinese Acrobats, which will be held at 7:30 Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, in the Borger High School Auditorium.
For more than 25 years, the Shangri-La Chinese Acrobats have been a high-energy attractions for hundreds of universities and performing arts centers. The members of the 12-15 member troupe interpret the precision and grace of an art form honed by centuries of training and discipline.
The production features acrobatic displays, formidable feats of daring and balance, energy, costumes, and a touch of Chinese comedy.
Also to be featured in concert will be Guy Penrod, who is set to perform at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 13, 2012, in the BHS auditorium.
After 14 years, 14 albums, two Grammys, and multiple Dove Awards as the centerpiece of a well-known gospel group, Penrod is returning to country music while still delivering inspirational messages.
He has built his career as a major voice in Nashville - first as a session singer, and later on center stage as a major name with the Gaither Vocal Band.
Penrod is adding a collection of original country songs to his gospel repertoire, with values and a worldview that is as strong and positive as ever. He will be backed by a trio of musicians at the upcoming concert.
A former Borgan is also returning to the stage as part of this year’s 2011-12 season in Borger. Shawn Belton Miller will be performing with a date still to be announced.
Known for her rich, full voice, Miller’s program will include gospel, popular favorites, and current hits.
She is a 1986 graduate of Borger High School, and attended South Plains College in Levelland and Angelo State University in San Angelo. She now lives in the Garland area.
Miller has performed at Fiesta Texas in San Antonio and has sang the National Anthem at Texas Rangers and Dallas Mavericks games. She was the featured vocalist with The Music People Luv Band directed by Dr. Larry “T-Byrd” Gordon for several years.
She sings regularly at her church, First Baptist Church of Hamilton Park in Richardson. She is married to Mark Miller and has one daughter Sydney Victoria.
For those who choose to join the Tri-City Concert Association, they will have the privilege of attending concerts in the Pampa and Plainview areas simply by presenting their tickets at the door.
Concerts in Pampa are held at the M.K. Brown Auditorium and concerts in Plainview are held at the Harral Auditorium at Wayland Baptist University.
