Tomorrow is Don Rice Day!
In celebration of Don’s 50 years with the Borger News-Herald, a special reception is being held at the BNH offices at 10 a.m. tomorrow. There will be refreshments and drinks, and the public is invited to attend.
The Hutchinson County Commissioners will be making a special proclamation declaring March 23 “Don Rice Day,” and a special presentation will be made to Don during the festivities.
Don will have some of his old cameras and photos on display during the reception for those in attendance to see.
Also in Friday’s edition of the paper, a three-part special section will be inserted honoring Don for his accomplishments during his time with the Borger News-Herald. The special section will include various photos he has taken through the years, well-wishes and thanks from the local community, and some other special features that will capture readers’ attention.
For more information on the Don Rice festivities, call the paper at 273-5611.

Happy Don Rice day! I was remembering today photos taken by Don of me, one of which made the BNH. It was in 1970 when I worked at Barney's Pharmacy. It was the time of women's lib and Don wanted to show an independent woman functioning at a traditional male task. He set up the photo shoot just off the Cloverleaf where he could stand in the median to photograph me changing a tire on his car. We had difficulty getting the shot because men kept stopping to "aid" me. He would run across the highway to explain what was going on, but we did finally get the shot. It was a lot of fun for me to see myself in the paper! I wish I had saved it; my granddaughter would love it.
