Suspect arrested for Kimbrell homicide
A suspect has been arrested for the homicide of a local citizen that took place last Thursday.On Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at approximately 6 p.m., Borger police and Texas Rangers arrested 47-year-old Gregorio Felan for the murder of Lois Kimbrell. Felan, a nearby neighbor to the victim, was processed at the Borger Police Department on the charge of murder, which is a felony of the first degree.Once processed, Felan was brought before a judge and arraigned, according to Lt. Anthony Griffin of the Borger Police Department. Bond was denied for Felan. He was later transported to the Hutchinson County Jail in Stinnett where he was incarcerated.After 11 a.m. Thursday morning, police officers were dispatched to 120 Garrett Street in reference to an unattended death. The call for service came into BPD dispatch by a citizen from Meals on Wheels that delivers food to the elderly.Once officers arrived on scene, they found Kimbrell inside the residence, where she lived alone. The residence belonged to her and she had lived there for the past few decades.After an initial investigation of the scene, circumstances led officers to believe it was a suspicious death. Detectives from the police department’s criminal investigations division were called in to investigate further. After the detectives investigated, the decision was made to contact the Texas Rangers to assist in the investigation due to its extent and the need for extra manpower in an incident of this scope.An autopsy was scheduled and performed on Friday morning. After investigating into the incident and obtaining preliminary autopsy results, the incident was classified as a homicide and was investigated in such a manner.Lt. Griffin said that over the past five days, an extremely extensive, precise, and lengthy investigation was conducted by the Borger Police Department and Texas Rangers. The investigation came to an end and concluded Tuesday evening.Police Chief Jimmy Adams of the Borger Police Department said that due to the diligence, hard work, and professionalism of the members of the members of the BPD and Texas Rangers that this investigation was promptly solved and the perpetrator securely jailed.He extended his thanks and gratitude for the hard work of the members of the Borger Police Department and Texas Rangers for an outstanding coordinated combined effort in the resolve and conclusion to this tragic incident and crime.Chief Adams also wanted to thank the citizens of the City of Borger for their tips and assistance throughout this investigation.
