The West Texas Lady Comanches hosted the Sunray Lady Bobcats last night, still looking for their first District win. The Lady Cats had a different idea, and easily took care of the Lady Tribe 49-26. West Texas was in game for the first quarter, but after that, it wasn’t pretty. Sunray got out to a 10-0 lead before the Lady Comanches got on the board with 1:40 showing in the opening period.
Erin Summers hit a trey with 1:40 left in the first quarter to give WT their first points of the game. This made the score 10-3. Sarah Kelly made 2 to keep them in the game with a 10-5 score at the end of one.
The Lady Comanches could not manage a basket in the second period while Sunray poured in 17 points. WT made 9 turnovers in the second period alone, and they went into the locker room at the half trailing 27-5.
Cheyenne Tull scored five points in the third. Katelyn Wilson had a bucket and Abby Rios, probably the smallest Lady Comanche, had two buckets. WT trailed 41-16 after three.
Devin DeLapp went 4-4 at the free throw line in the fourth period. Wilson was 2-2. Rios and Hailee Flaharity each had a bucket. The turnovers weren’t the problem in the second half, the Lady Tribe was just too far behind to catch up. WT is now 0-3 in District play.
Rios was top scorer for WT with 6 points and a rebound. Tull had 5 points and 3 boards. Wilson and DeLapp had 4 points. Summers had a trey and played with a badly sprained ankle. Alyssa Snider always does a great job for the Lady Comanches getting the ball down court and handling the basketball.
