Last week two sisters from West Texas High made school history by becoming the first girls Doubles District Champions ever! Abby Summers, a senior, and Erin Summers a junior won the District 1A Championship. The girls weren't even seeded going into the District tournament. In fact, they took care of the top seeds from Canadian, in round two. This was a neat accomplishment, because the Wildcats won all the other tennis events.
Honestly, the competition wasn't very close. They beat Gruver in Round 1: 6-0, 6-0. Round two is when they sent the number one seeds packing, dismissing Canadian: 7-5, 6-2. In Round 3, the semifinals, they took care of Sunray: 6-1, 6-2. In the Championship Round, they dismissed Vega: 7-5, 6-1.
In addition to playing tennis, Erin and Abby are active in other activities at West Texas High. Both of the girls are varsity cheerleaders, both were on the District Champ Varsity Volleyball team, both on the Lady Comanche Varsity Basketball team, and both are on the Varsity Softball team. Erin is also a regional qualifier for the Lady Comanche Track team in pole vault, Spring Relay, and 800 M Relay.
Abby and Erin will be preparing for more history, as they get ready to compete at the Regional Tennis Tournament in Levelland this Wednesday and Thursday, April 18 and 19.View more articles in:
