Do you dream about the good ole days when a southern gospel music concert was exciting, fun and spiritually uplifting? The music was always "just right" - never too loud and the singers were neat and well groomed.
Well, you can stop dreaming because here comes The Southmen and they are bringing the good ole days with them.
The Southmen Quartet, a Southern gospel group, will perform at Celebration Family Church, 811 E. Broadway in Fritch, tonight (Sept. 25) at 7 p.m.
Group members include Jim Hefner, tenor, who spent most of his adult life in gospel music and was a founding member of the Southmen in 1974. He also serves as manager and emcee, one of the best in gospel music.
Buddy Burton is lead singer and is a former member of the Statesmen Quartet with Hovie Lister. He was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame as a member of the Statesmen.
Baritone Larry Beck is an original member of the Southmen and bass Larry Parker has been in gospel music all of his life. Pianist Roy Bray has been involved in gospel music since 1966.
Bass guitarist Johnny Washburn is also a founding member of the Southmen Quartet and serves as bus driver.
