Sanford Post Office could face potential closing

July 31, 2011

Over the past several years the United States Postal Service has publicly talked about its need to f cut costs including limiting the days mail would be delivered.
Early this week, the U.S. Postal Service released a list of nearly 3,700 post offices that it will study for possible closure including the one located in Sanford.
Due to increase of customers doing business online, on smart phones and at other retailers’ locations, the Postal Service said the need to keep all of their 32,000 offices open across the country has diminished.
“Our customers’ habits have made it clear that they no longer require a physical post office to conduct most of their personal business,” Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe said in a news release.
Other Panhandle sites making the list include: Adrian, Briscoe, Dodson, Estelline, Farnsworth, Hedley, Lakeview, Lipscomb, Quail, and Umbarger.
No timetable was given for when the study would be complete and a decision on closing the listed post offices will be made.
