(Girls) Sanford-Fritch 53 Amarillo River Road 43
On Friday evening, the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles took one step closer to clinching a playoff berth by beating the Amarillo River Road Lady Wildcats 53-43 in Amarillo.
The Lady Wildcats started the game tough in the first period by playing to a 13-13 tie with Sanford-Fritch.
But the Lady Eagles got some separation in the second period and forced River Road to play catch up the remainder of the game.
Christa White had a good game scoring 14 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Kelsey Ham scored 12 points and Mikala Setliff scored 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
The Lady Eagles improved to 6-1 in district and 18-9 overall.
The Lady Eagles will next take on Spearman on Tuesday evening in a big District 1-2A contest. A win by the Lady Eagles would cause Sanford-Fritch and Spearman to be tied for first place in the district standings. The game tips off at 6:00 p.m. in Fritch.
(Boys) Amarillo River Road 61 Sanford-Fritch 52
Through three periods, the Sanford-Fritch Eagles were in striking distance to get their first district win against River Road.
But the Wildcats finished the fourth period strong to hang on for the 61-52 win in Amarillo.
Colton Valle scored 21 points and Trey Henry had 19 points to lead the Eagles.
The loss drops Sanford-Fritch to 0-5 overall and 2-18 for the season.
The Eagles host Spearman on Tuesday beginning at 7:30 p.m.
