On Tuesday evening, the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles hosted their first home game of the season to the Lady Cats of Sunray.
Sanford-Fritch started out holding their ground and sitting with a 6-0 run early. Sunray quickly took a timeout to settle their team. Sanford-Fritch continued to control the game the entire quarter.
The second quarter the Lady Cats tried to get composure and began scoring and taking advantage of Sanford-Fritch’s early foul trouble. Big rebounds and many second chance shots helped Sunray close the gap and halftime score SF 32 Sunray 28.
Sunray’s team came back out on court after half with great determination. A big 3 point by Senior Kelsey Taylor gave Sunray their first lead.
It was a back and forth battle and at 4:47 left in 3rd quarter, sophomore Christa White hit two free throws to give Sanford-Fritch the lead back. More missed opportunities and more fouls kept the score even. Quarter finally ended tied up at 41.
Endurance and fatigue started to set in for Sanford-Fritch early in fourth quarter. Two starters for Sanford-Fritch fouled out -Mikala Setliff and Mariah Cumings.
Sunray had exceptional free throw shooting to keep the score relatively equal.
Christa White hit a big 3 point shot and a Kelsey Ham steal let Sanford-Fritch sneak back in the lead, for the last time, at 50-47.
The Lady Eagles kept fouling and Giving up rebounds would put them in a situation of a must score three pointer to tie the game.
A timeout with :19 left SF had the ball, and a beautiful two point banker from Judd wouldn’t be enough to tie the game and Sunray would hold out the final seconds to win in a heartbreaker over the Lady Eagles 57-56.
