Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles lose heartbreaker to Idalou

February 15, 2012

On Tuesday evening, the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles got handed a heartbreaker on Valentines in their 2A Bi-District playoff match with Idalou at Canyon High School on Tuesday, 50-42.
The Lady Eagles started with two quick points from sophomore Christa White. This lead wouldn’t last long with quick shooting and good rebounding by the Lady Cats.
Sanford-Fritch had to play catchup for the rest of the game with the first quarter ending with Sanford-Fritch down by five.
Second quarter had the Lady Eagles trying for a chance to stop Idalou’s momentum and get some points. But too many chances at the free throw line would be money for the Lady Cats.
Halftime had Sanford-Fritch down, 24-13.
Third quarter was all Sanford-Fritch with steals, good shots and good defense. A couple of timeouts allowed Sanford-Fritch to go on a 8-4 run to get within four points. Senior Mariah Cumings shot 83% from the field to help make up difference.
In the fourth quarter, the same Sanford-Fritch came out strong but started sending Idalou to the free stripe would cost the game. A timeout with 5:07 left had Sanford-Fritch down by three.
More free-throw shooting by Idalou would give them the edge once again.
A couple great passes into sophomore Mikala Setliff for buckets was a last ditch effort. However, this wouldn’t be enough to help pull out a victory for those Lady Eagles.
Sanford-Fritch lost 50-42 to end a great season with a 20-11 record.
Stat leaders: Christa White 11; Mariah Cumings 10.
