On Tuesday afternoon a three-run home run in the top of the seventh inning by Jarrod Goodwin gave the Sanford-Fritch Eagles the 8-6 win over the Amarillo River Road Wildcats in the District 1-2A opener for both teams.
Goodwin had a good game going 3-for-4 at the plate, while driving in five runs for the Eagles.
The Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning but River Road responded by scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
The Wildcats added three more runs in the second inning, but the Eagles settled down on the field behind a solid pitching performance by Seth Hanifin. In the final five innings, Hanifin only game up three hits with only one Wildcat runner reaching third base.
The win allows the Eagles to start district play with a 1-0 record and to improve to 8-6 overall for the 2012 season.
The Eagles will next host Clarendon on Saturday in non-district action beginning at 1:00 p.m.
