Sampel found innocent on burglary charges

June 21, 2012

On 04/22/09 the Borger Police made an additional arrest in the Burglary of the BCAC at Frank Phillips College. Derrick Cody Sampel, W/M, 10/06/88, of Houston TX, was arrested on the felony charge of Burglary of a building. Sampel was released on a $7,500 bond.
Patrol officers and Detectives responded and located 23 year old Brenda Jimenez, who was arrested on an unrelated shoplifting charge. As a result of this arrest, additional evidence from the earlier burglary was discovered. This resulted in Jimenez being charged with the Burglary of the Diamond Shop as well. Jimenez was later transported to the Hutchinson County Jail. Bond has not been set as of this press release. In ensuring months, Derrick Sampel was proven innocent of all charges. Mr. Sampel is finishing his B.A. in kinesiology and is the starter pitcher for Huston Tillison Rams in Austin, Texas.

A little out of the blue

With the story then the ending about the guy now doing well, I'm wondering if him or a family member bugged the paper to run something until they finally gave in and did. Otherwise it is odd a three year old crime is now showing up again. Probably most in Borger forgot about the story happening to begin with.

Did anyone proofread this story before it was published?
It's awful suspicious that most of the text of this story is that same as an article on another website. http://www.connectamarillo.com/news/story.aspx?id=247042

The overall structure of the story doesn't make any sense. There is improper capitalization of words (Burglary), misspelling (ensuing, not ensuring), and what is the Diamond Shop? (do you mean Jim's Diamond Shop).

There must be a reason you're reporting on a story from 2009. This article sure doesn't explain that.
Overall, very poor journalism.
And I'd be shocked if this post is approved and shown to the public.
