Borger Salvation Army is planning its Red Kettle Kickoff and Angel Tree events in November and December.
The Red Kettle kickoff will be held on Nov. 23 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The kettles and bell ringers will be out Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays at Wal-Mart, 1404 W. Wilson; United Supermarket, 1414 W. Wilson; and Lowes Marketplace, 101 W. 10th Street.
Since 1997, The Salvation Army National Kettle Kickoff has taken place during the halftime show of the Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day game. Over the last 15 years, the nationally televised halftime performance has become an annual Thanksgiving tradition for fans in attendance and viewers at home. The Red Kettle campaign has raised more than $1.3 billion since and has helped The Salvation Army to serve 30 million people each year nationwide. The Salvation Army kettle campaign is even more crucial this year, when charitable income is down while even more people and families are seeking Salvation Army help. Any spare change can make a big difference.
Next month is the Salvation Army Angel Tree Toy Distribution, which will be on Dec. 19 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. A Borger Salvation Army Angel Tree will be set up at Wal-Mart after Black Friday.
Each year, the Salvation Army offers holiday shoppers the opportunity to make someone’s Christmas wish come true by adopting a child or senior through the Angel Tree program.
After selecting an Angel, the purchased, unwrapped gifts are returned to the Angel Tree site to be distributed to the families during The Salvation Army’s annual Toy Shop.
The Angel Tree program in Borger will run through December 15 at the local Salvation Army.
