On Tuesday afternoon, the Borger Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors performed their annual review for Borger EDC CEO Dan Redd during the board’s October meeting.
The EDC Board gave Redd a positive report, which extended his contract for another year. Redd has served as the EDC CEO for five years and will enter his sixth.
During Tuesday’s meeting, the EDC Board approved entering a contract with Leading EDG to assist entrepreneurs and small businesses in the Borger area.
Spencer McElhannon of Leading EDG has worked with the Borger EDC and the communities of Pampa and Perryton assisting local entrepreneurs and small businesses in the Borger area for over two years as part of the Entrepreneurial Alliance.
The EDC’s agreement with Leading EDG will be to provide many of the same services the Entrepreneurial Alliance provided, with McElhannon saying Leading EDG will be able to better serve the needs of each individual community.
McElhannon told the EDC Board the money provided to Leading EDG will be used for the communities it will assist. McElhannon added he believes the new agreement will allow him and the facilitators in other communities the ability to find out what are the specific needs of the particular communities and develop the right plan to meet those needs.
In his presentation to the EDC Board, McElhannon explained that too often a broad approach is used to try to help new businesses in a community. However the needs and what will work in Borger is not necessarily going to work in communities like Pampa, Big Spring, or Lamesa.
