PERRYTON-Great start. Horrible ending.
Those are the words that can be used to describe Saturday afternoon’s District 1-3A contest between the Borger Bulldogs and the Perryton Rangers.
The home team Rangers were able to extend their winning streak over the Bulldogs on the baseball diamond with a 18-8 win.
The afternoon started on a high note for the Bulldogs as junior Max Lusk and senior Brandon Garcia connected for two homeruns in the top of the first inning to help give Borger an early 3-0 lead.
An RBI single by Lusk in the top of the second inning gave Borger a 4-1 lead.
However, the tide of the game started to change quickly when the Rangers came to the plate for the bottom half of the inning.
The Rangers sent seven batters to the plate in the second, before the Bulldogs could get an out, with three singles and two doubles helping Perryton to bring five runs across the plate to make it a 4-6 ball game.
The Bulldogs did answer back in the top of the third, as Garcia hit his second homerun in the game along with Acton Smith and Clay Ellis coming across the plate after hits by Kody Davila and Lusk to go back ahead 7-6.
Unfortunately, the Rangers would be able to answer back as the game started to get out of hand in the fourth inning with Perryton scoring seven runs to go ahead 13-7.
Borger added one more run in the top of the fifth inning, but Perryton responded by scoring five more runs in the bottom of the inning to force the run-rule with the score, 18-8.
The loss sends Borger to 10-10-1 overall and 1-1 in District 1-3A play.
The Bulldogs will next travel to Pampa tomorrow afternoon to take on the Harvesters at 5:00 p.m. with Pampa currently holding the top spot in the district standings with a 2-0 mark.
