On Friday evening, the Perryton Rangers improved to 3-1 in District 1-3A play by defeating the Borger Bulldogs 76-49 in Perryton.
Over the years, Perryton seems to be one place in the Texas Panhandle where it feels like the home team really does benefit from having home field advantage in a contest Some can argue that was the case again Friday night, as the Rangers were able to get to the foul line 37 times compared to the Bulldogs 10 free throw attempts.
But on this night, the home court advantage didn’t make much of a difference, as the Rangers did a good job shooting from the outside, grabbing rebounds, and turning Bulldog turnovers into points to pull away in the second half for the win.
The Bulldogs got off to a good start with Jamon Hearon scoring seven of the Bulldogs first nine points to take a 9-5 lead.
Grant Boren had the hot hand for the Bulldogs in the second period, scoring six points. But the first half ended with the Rangers nailing five three pointers to help them build a 26-37 lead at halftime.
The second half started with the Bulldogs missing their first five shots leading the Rangers to go on a 10-0 run to build a 26-47 lead.
The Bulldogs finally got on the scoreboard at the 4:00 mark of the third period, when Hearon found Dillon Carrillo open for an easy lay up. But the Rangers continued to have things go their way offensively and were able to finish the third period with a 21 point lead on their way to the district win.
The loss drops the Bulldogs to 10-14 overall, 1-3 in district play.
Borger will next travel to Pampa on Tuesday to take on the Harvesters beginning at 7:30 p.m.
