On Monday evening, the Borger Lady Bulldogs came out focused in order to have a good defensive game against the district leading Randall Lady Raiders.
The Lady Bulldogs did a good job slowing down the Lady Raiders attack, while Borger goalkeeper Emma Wood came up with 16 stops through 80 minutes of play.
Unfortunately one corner kick goal in the 25th minute by Randall proved to be the difference in the game, as the Lady Raiders won 1-0 in District 5-4A play.
In the 15th and 18th minute, the Lady Raiders placed themselves in good position for a goal. But both times Wood came up with a nice save to keep Randall off the scoreboard.
In the 23rd minute, the Lady Bulldogs had their best opportunity for a goal on a free kick from about 25 yards out. But the Lady Raiders did a solid job closing any good lanes towards the goal to keep Borger scoreless.
In the second half, the Lady Raiders came out playing more aggressive on the offensive end, but the Lady Bulldogs continued to play solid defense to keep Randall from adding another goal.
Unfortunately, the Lady Bulldogs had only two or three scoring opportunities in the final 40 minutes, allowing Randall to hang on for the win.
The win improves Randall’s district record to 12-0-0, while Borger goes to 2-4-5.
With one district game to go, the Lady Bulldogs hold a half point lead over Pampa for the final district playoff berth.
The Lady Bulldogs can clinch a playoff berth on Friday night with a win over Dumas or a Pampa loss to Canyon.
The Lady Bulldogs square off with the Dumas Lady Demons beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Friday evening in Borger.
