The 2011 season started a little rough for the Borger Bulldogs on Friday night at Bulldog Stadium. In front of a good crowd, the Randall Raiders racked up 248 yards and scored three touchdowns in the second quarter to build a 21 point lead in their 35-7 win over Borger.
Raiders junior quarterback Colin Bowen had a big night on the ground and the air as he rushed for 155 yards and two touchdowns while connecting with Logan Brittian for an 89 yard touchdown pass in the second quarter.
The Raiders cracked the scoreboard first by putting together six play drive, after an interception by senior Trey Ingram, which ended on a 17 yard run into the end zone by Bowen at the 5:10 mark of the first quarter.
The Bulldogs responded by putting together a ten play 64 yard drive that ended with junior quarterback Jacob Rendon punching it in for a two yard touchdown run to make it a 7-7 game with 41 seconds left in the first quarter.
At this point, the contest had the look of being a great back and forth contest. However, the Raiders opened the second quarter with Bowen scoring his second touchdown on the night on a 16 yard run. The Raider scoring drive was followed by Ingram killing a Bulldog drive, deep within Raider territory, with the second of his three interceptions. Two plays later Bowen connected with a wide open Logan Brittian for an 89 yard touchdown pass to quickly make it a 7-21 score.
The Bulldogs offense tried to cut the deficit before halftime with Rendon finding senior Tyler Ortega for a 18 yard pass, followed by Ty Brown picking up 15 yards on the ground to reach the Raider 22 yard line. But Ingram’s third interception killed the Bulldog drive and gave the Raiders enough time to put together a ten play scoring drive to go into halftime ahead, 7-28.
In the second half, the Raiders came out trying to eat up time on the clock and yards on the ground that kept the Bulldog offense off the field throughout much of the final two quarters.
Despite the loss, the Bulldogs had a couple of good individual performances led by Brown rushing for 115 yards on 19 carries and senior defensive end Dustin Clark picking up six tackles, three assists and two quarterback sacks.
The Bulldogs start the season 0-1 and will next travel to Amarillo on Thursday to take on the Amarillo Caprock Longhorns at Dick Bivens Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
