Officials investigating suspicious death in Lefors

(DPS RELEASE) - On Jan. 1, 2013, at approximately 12:20 p.m., the Gray County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call in reference to a residence in Lefors, Texas. Gray County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the location and found a deceased woman, later identified as 42-year-old Kristi Dawn Slatten.
Deputies found evidence of foul play and secured the scene. The Gray County Sheriff’s Department requested that the Texas Rangers assist with the investigation. It was determined that the victim’s Chevrolet Avalanche was missing. A warrant was issued for the stolen vehicle.
At approximately 2:27 p.m., officers with the Panhandle Police Department, Carson County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Highway Patrol stopped the vehicle on U.S. 60, two miles west of Panhandle.
The driver, identified as Joshua Keith Rigo (28) of Amarillo, was charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and placed in the Carson County Jail.
The passenger, identified as Steve Preston Dean (47) of Amarillo, was arrested on unrelated charges and was also taken to the Carson County Jail.
An autopsy is being performed on the victim in Lubbock. The Texas Rangers hoped to have preliminary autopsy results back soon.
No charges have beenfiled in connection with the woman’s death, but the investigation continues.
