Officials are investigating a vehicle explosion in Stinnett

June 30, 2011

Officials are investigating a vehicle explosion that occurred early Thursday morning.
On Thursday, June 30, 2011, at 3:30 am. in the 1400 block of Davis, a vehicle explosion left a Stinnett resident with second degree burns. Stinnett Chief of Police Marie Farbro stated that arson is suspected. Truck owner Jeff Irvin tried to put the fire out with a water hose. The pickup truck then exploded and knocked the man down.
The Stinnett Fire Department was on the scene and Irvin was transported by the Stinnett EMS to the Golden Plains Community Hospital. He was then sent to the Lubbock Burn Unit with second degree burns covering the top portion of his body.
Farbro said that Mr. Irvin was released from the Lubbock Burn Unit around 12 Thursday afternoon. At 3:00 p.m., Danny Richards and his team of investigators found that the explosion was from inside the vehicle and were conducting a thorough investigation.
Richards said they have sent collected items from the scene off to a laboratory for tests. Anyone with information can call the Stinnett Police Department at 878-2422.
Richards said that the Hutchinson County Fire Marshal's office will be offering a $1,000 reward to anyone who knows information on the perpetrator.
