NICHOLAS F. “Nick” VELOZ

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Stinnett native, Nichols F. Veloz, 70, passed away Nov. 5, 2013, in Alexandria, Va.
Graveside services were held on Nov. 12, 2013, in Ivy Hill Cemetery in Alexandria, Va. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 23, 2013, in the chapel of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1200 S. Washington, Amarillo.
Raised in Stinnett, Nick began school in the first grade in the Stinnett school system and graduated from Stinnett High in 1961.
He attended Frank Phillips College and graduated from the University of Texas.
Upon graduation Nick went to work for the National Park Service for the next 25 years. Upon retiring he became a National Conservator. He was also a member of the Fellow of the American Institute for Conservation.
Preceding him in death were his parents Nick and Betty Ann Veloz;his grandparents Jack and Ann Oates: and a nephew John Rogers.
Survivors include his wife Barbara of Alexandria, Va.; sister Virginia Rogers of Amarillo; aunt and uncle, John and Ruby Oates of Austin, aunt Martha Schaub of Naples, Fla.; a cousin Jack Oates of Stinnett; a nephew, James Rogers, and two grandnephews, Nick and Kahlin, of Amarillo
