NEWS: St. Andrew holding 61st annual breakfast

It is time once again for St. Andrew United Methodist Church's annual breakfast.
On Saturday, Feb. 16, the 61st annual pancake and waffle breakfast, sponsored by the St. Andrew United Methodist Men, will take place starting at 6:30 a.m.
The breakfast, which will run until 11 a.m., will be held at St. Andrew UMC, 100 Amaryllis Street, in the fellowship hall.
The menu includes pancakes, waffles, sausage, bacon, coffee, and juice. According to Pastor John Westman, the batter used for the pancakes and waffles is made from scratch using a recipe that has been passed down since the origin of the breakfast 61 years ago.
Tickets are available from any of the St. Andrew Methodist Men or at the church office by calling 273-9702.
Tickets are $7. Children under the age of six are free.
The St. Andrew United Methodist Women will sponsor a bake sale in conjunction with the breakfast.
All proceeds from the breakfast and bake sale will go toward mission and local church projects.
Pastor Westman invites everyone to come and enjoy the breakfast.
It is a tradition that has continued for 61 years and has become not only a fundraiser but a yearly fellowship event for the community.
“Normally 400 people are served at this breakfast,” he said. “This will be a place where you might run into some old acquaintances and have a place to visit with them too.”
The event has moved around over the years, originating at the Bunavista Methodist Church and later moving to Phillips Methodist Church.
When the two churches merged in the late 1980s, the event returned to the Bunavista area with the formation of St. Andrew UMC.
“Please don't forget to start this Saturday with breakfast at St. Andrew UMC,” Westman said.
