Two cars and a school bus were involved in a wreck late Wednesday afternoon that can only be described as a freak accident.
A 2004 red Chevrolet Avalanche pickup, driven by Mark Steven Lilley, 62, of Borger, was parked facing eastbound in the parking lot of Realife Church on Coronado Circle. A 2006 Silver Suzuki Forenza, driven by Ana Valencia Velazquez, 32, of Borger, was parking facing northbound behind Lilley’s vehicle, according to Lt. Anthony Griffin of Borger PD.
A school bus was parked in front of Velazquez’s vehicle facing westbound. Lilley backed his vehicle up, striking Velasquez’s vehicle as her child was getting into the car. This caused the car door to shut on the child’s foot.
As Velazquez tried to pull the child into the vehicle, she let her foot off the brake, causing her car to go forward, striking the school bus, Lt. Griffin said. The wreck occurred around 4:13 p.m. Wednesday.
The child, who was not identified, was the only one taken to Golden Plains Community Hospital with injuries.
