NEWS: Borger PD continues fight against illegal drugs

March 4, 2013

On Friday March 1st, 2013, the Borger Police Department, in cooperation with the Borger Fire Marshalls Office and the Hutchinson County Sheriff’s Office, conducted a business inspection at D&D Amusement located at 1320 S. Florida Street. The Borger Police Department had information that the establishment was selling some of the “potpourri” type substances that had been a recent topic of discussion during a Town Hall Meeting. Although these types of substances are not yet illegal for sale, the Borger Police Department had further information this establishment was selling Illegal Substances in addition to the “potpourri” type substances. Upon conducting the inspection, Officers established Probable Cause to obtain a Search Warrant for Illegal Narcotics.
Once the Search Warrant was obtained and Executed, JOEL MICAH BROWN, 42 years of age, of Borger, was arrested for POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE PG 1 >= 1G < 4G (Methamphetamines); and JOSHUA ALLEN LAND, 36 years of age, of Borger, was arrested for POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE PG 1 >= 1G < 4G (Methamphetamines). Both Brown and Land were transported to the Borger Police Department where they were processed and incarcerated in the City of Borger Jail Facility. Both Brown and Land were later arraigned, where bond was set at $25,000 each. TOMMIE ANN TIJERINA, 29 years of age, of Borger, was also arrested during the Execution of the Search Warrant. Tijerina was arrested for Possession of Marijuana in a Drug Free Zone. Additional charges will likely be sought on person(s), if not all parties involved.
During the Execution of the Search Warrant, the Borger Police Department worked with several Federal Agencies to assist and ensure the best outcome of this Investigation. The Borger Police Department, in cooperation with these Federal Agencies seized 17 Firearms; including Rifles, Pistols and Shotguns. At least one of the Firearms seized was an illegal firearm. In addition the Borger Police Department will be filing seizure documents, on a local level, with the District Attorney’s Office, in regards to a large amount of US currency, Illegal Narcotics, Illegal Narcotics Paraphernalia and items related to the sale of Illegal Narcotics.
The Borger Police Department continues, and will continue, to aggressively enforce current laws in reference to Illegal Narcotics. Although some of the “synthetic” substances or “potpourri” type substances may not be specifically listed as illegal, they are often found or associated with other Illegal Substances. As these “synthetic” type substances have become a growing concern of the Borger Police Department, as well as to the Citizens, the Borger Police Department will aggressively maintain its enforcement of any Illegal Activity by the Laws of the State of Texas, Federal Laws, and Municipal Ordinances. The Borger Police Department greatly appreciates the public support while the Borger Police Department continues to combat this growing epidemic.
Since learning of these establishments selling the “synthetic” type of “potpourri” type substances, as well as having knowledge that these legal substances are also most times associated with Illegal Substances, the Borger Police Department has been focused on selective enforcement around the area of these establishments. On January 1st, 2013, Borger Police Detectives were patrolling the area around one of these establishments. On this date, BRANDY RALYN HULSEY, a 38 years of age, of Pampa, was arrested for POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE PG 1 >= 4G < 200G. Also arrested on that date was DEREK PAUL KINDLE, 22 years of age, of Pampa. Both subjects had just purchased these legal “synthetic” type or “potpourri” type substances from an establishment.
Enforcement efforts continued on March 4th, 2013 when Borger Police Detectives again arrested persons leaving one of these establishments. Joshua Corderro Mauricio, 24 years of age, of Miami Tx, was arrested on an instanter traffic offense. Emily Nicole Mauricio, 21 years of age, of Pampa was arrested for Outstanding Warrants and was also issued a Citation for having an Open Container of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle. Again, these subjects had just purchased the not yet illegal, “synthetic” type or “potpourri” type substances. Both subjects were transported to the Borger Police Department where they were processed and incarcerated in the City of Borger Jail Facility.
