Molly Jane Bayless Brain

Molly Jane Bayless Brain, 93, of Fairmont, WV, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at the Genesis Morgantown Campus, Madison Center. She was born June 18, 1920 in Wilburton, Oklahoma, the daughter of the late Ralph E. and Leona B. McLarty Bayless.
Molly graduated from Anadarko, Oklahoma High School in 1938. She attended Anadarko Business College the following year and then moved with her family to Borger, Texas in 1940. She was an employee of Phillips Petroleum Company Refinery in Phillips, Texas beginning in 1940. She married Cecil L. Brain in 1947. He was employed at Dow Chemical Company and was transferred in his job several times. Molly worked as a secretary in several of those cities. When her husband retired in 1983, they moved to Fairmont to be near their daughter, Jane Clayton and her family. Molly was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fairmont and was a member of the American Baptist Women’s Ministries and served as assistant treasurer. She served as a Deacon for several terms and also was on the Executive Board of the church. Molly loved to play bridge and belonged to two bridge clubs, as well as the Woman’s Club of Fairmont. During their travels, she and her husband, were able to visit all 50 states. She had many friends throughout the United States with whom she was in constant correspondence.
Molly is survived by two children, Jane Clayton and her husband Thomas of Morgantown, WV, and Steven L. Brain and his wife Carolyn of Plainview, TX. Four grandchildren, Timothy Brain of Plainview, TX, Thomas Brain and his wife Marta of Seabrook, TX, Tiffany Umstead and her husband Justin of Morgantown, WV, and Julianna Clayton of Phoenix, AZ. Three Step grandsons, Randall Phillips, Richard Phillips, and Cory Embry, all from Texas. Five great-grandchildren, Alexa, Caleb and Rebecca Brain, of Seabrook, TX, Kyler Brain of Plainview, TX, and Molly Jane Umstead, of Morgantown, WV. She is also survived by a sister, Mary E. “Libby” Adams and her husband Wayne of Waco, TX. Two brothers, Ralph E. and his wife Melba of Brighton, MI, and John E. Bayless and his wife Mary Lee of Borger, TX. A sister-in-law, Carol Bayless, of Palm Desert, CA and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Cecil L. Brain, who died in 1999, as well as her 15 month old daughter, Jean Brain. She was also preceded by her step grandson, Robert Phillips and her brother, James W. Bayless.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the Memorials and gifts committee of the First Baptist Church, 901 Fairmont Avenue, Fairmont, WV 26554.
Friends and family may call the Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, on Friday, November 1, 2013, from 2PM until 4PM and 6PM until 8PM. Mrs. Brain will lie in state at the First Baptist Church, 901 Fairmont Avenue, Fairmont from 10AM until 11AM. The funeral will be held in the church at 11 AM with Pastor Valerie Gittings officiating.
