Mary Charles Smith left this world to be with her Heavenly Father Saturday, April 23, 2011.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at Central Baptist Church in Borger with Pastor Rick Nichols officiating and Rev. John Denton with burial to follow at Highland Park Cemetery in Borger.
Mary Charles was born January 13, 1921 to Charlie & Maude Derr in Altus, OK. Mary grew up in the Altus area and graduated from Friendship High School in 1940. On April 11, 1942 Mary married the love of her life Weldon Smith. After World War II they moved to Texas with Phillips Petroleum and transferred to Borger in 1972.
Mary was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church where she served many years as Sunday School Secretary and Church Clerk. She volunteered at Helping Hands, Opportunities, Meals on Wheels and the Hutchinson County Museum.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents Charlie & Maude Derr; husband Weldon Smith; two sisters, Johnnie Ruth Blankenship and Virginia Schnorrenberg and niece Carolyn Farrell.
She is survived by her two nieces Sue Bailey & husband Bob of Humble, TX, Billie Shepherd & husband Joe of Broken Arrow, OK; nephew Mike Schnorrenberg of Tulsa, OK; nieces and nephews, Shane Graham, Ron Schooler, Jill Holloway, Kristi Dughman, Joanna Shepherd, Jeff Schnorrenberg, Brian Schnorrenberg and numerous great great nieces and nephews and several cousins.
Pallbearers will be Tom Wicker, Gene McWilliams, Jay Campbell, John R. Alexander, Joe Shepherd and Bob Bailey.
The family would like to thank the staff at Borger Healthcare Center and BSA Hospice for the care they gave our Aunt.
