Man dies in fatal pursuit

At 11:48 p.m. on Friday August 5, 2011, a verbal altercation in a local bar occurred between two men and continued over into an Allsup’s parking lot in Borger.
William Roland Mayberry, 54 of Lewisville, Texas, allegedly hit the second man with his vehicle in the Allsup’s parking lot during the argument. The Borger Police Department tried to conduct a traffic stop on Mayberry. Refusing to stop, he led the PD into a pursuit on Highway FM 1551.
The pursuit continued on FM 1551 and on to SH 152. On Highway SH 152, a Highway Patrol trooper clocked the vehicle at 99 mph when he first caught view of the suspect. The trooper then joined the pursuit becoming the lead unit at the Carson County line. The pursuit continued into Gray County reaching speeds of 109 mph.
The suspect continued to lead police on this high-speed pursuit on to CR 3 southbound where he was unable maintain control of his vehicle. The suspect then turned sharply into the east bar ditch causing his vehicle to overturn about three times and coming to rest on its top in a fenced field. Mr. Mayberry was not wearing his safety belt. He then was ejected from the vehicle as it rolled. Mr. Mayberry was pronounced dead on scene.
