After earning a spot in the state tournament in 2010, the brother and sister duo of senior Josh Madden and junior Abbie Madden sat on the verge on another trip to Austin when they took to the tennis court this morning in the 3A Region I Tennis Tournament Mixed-Doubles Final.
The Madden duo, the top seeds in the tournament, were set to have a rematch of the District 1-3A final by facing Aaron Silva and Holly Gage of Pampa.
The Maddens won that district final by scores of 6-2, 6-4.
The Madden duo won their opening two matches in straight sets, defeating Jace Domer-Patricia Kingston, Midland Greenwood. 6-4, 6-4 and Burgard-Pena, Alvarado, 6-2, 6-2..
But the team had a little bit of a scare in the semifinals by going all three sets with Patel and Ueckert of Abilene Wylie, winning 4-6, 7-5, 7-5.
The Mixed-Doubles final got underway this morning at 9:00 a.m.
In boys singles, Borger senior John Scott won his first match of the day over Gustavo Cenobio of Lake Worth, 6-3, 6-4. But fell in the quarterfinals to Rayce Roberson of Abilene Wylie, 6-0, 6-0.
