Since Thursday, the Borger Lady Bulldogs and the West Texas High Comanches and Lady Comanches basketball teams have been hitting the hardwood as part of the Amarillo Highland Park Tournament.
Play on Thursday proved to be a little rough for both the Lady Bulldogs and Lady Comanches, with the Lady Bulldogs falling to Amarillo San Jacinto 45-24 and the Lady Comanches losing to Lazbuddie 39-36.
The Comanches got off to a good start in the tournament defeating Channing 55-27.
Thursdayâ€™s win by the Comanches set up a semi-final meeting with the Amarillo San Jacinto Patriots on Friday afternoon.
The game proved to be an up tempo contest with the Patriots taking advantage of 29 Comanche turnovers to get the 72-36 win.
The Patriots came out running and took advantage of nine Comanche first period turnovers to build a 23-8 lead.
In the second period, the Comanches settled down which led to some good shots by Chase Elliott and Alex Ramirez to go into the halftime break down 36-23.
However, the Comanches were not able to cut into the their deficit in the second half and the Patriots started to pull away in the fourth period for the big win.
Justin Holmberg led the Comanches with 10 points followed by Ramirez with nine points.
Ramirez would also have eight rebounds followed by Austin Ivy with six.
In the opening girls game on Friday afternoon, the Lady Bulldogs had no problems taking care of Channing 48-4.
Tiffanie Prater, Jackie Mendez and Nellie Embers each nailed three pointers to help give Borger a 32-4 lead by halftime.
The Lady Bulldogs controlled the boards by collecting 35 rebounds in the game, led by Emma Wood with 12.
Against Channing, Embers led the team in scoring with 14, Wood would score 10 and Mendez had six points for the Lady Bulldogs.
On Friday evening the Lady Comanches and Lady Bulldogs squared off to see who would advance to the consolation championship on Saturday morning.
The game would be a close one throughout, however the Lady Comanches came away with the big win. Final score and stats of the game was not available at press time.
The Amarillo Highland Park Tournament concluded play on Saturday.
