Local players named to Globe News Super Team

The great 2011 season for the Borger Bulldogs did not go unnoticed by the Amarillo Globe News as the regional newspaper named three Borger Bulldogs to the 15 members Globe News Baseball Super Team.
Hunter Hertel, Brandon Garcia and Garrett Irwin were named to the team, after posting some impressive stats on a Bulldog team that won the District 1-3A title outright and advanced three rounds deep into the 3A playoffs.
Hertel earned Super Team honors as a pitcher by posting a 10-4 record with a 2.68 ERA and striking out 89 batters.
Garcia, the District 1-3A MVP, made the team at catcher by posting a .511 batting average with 11 homeruns and a .944 slugging percentage.
Irwin made the team in the outfield after posting a .434 batting average with 34 RBI’s, 45 runs scored and 10 stolen bases.
Earning Honorable Mention honors on the Super Team was West Texas High Comanche Logan Hoff.
The Amarillo Globe News Super Team is selected from all of the high schools across the Texas Panhandle playing baseball from 5A-1A.
